In the time of Gog’s first invasion, Ashrakal the WitchKing’s followers included many notables—heroes to their allies, wicked, abhorrent villains to their victims. Among this cast of unsavory characters, few stood as high or in as much esteem as Astrophon, for was it not he who slew Parcledian, champion of Edene’s God-Queen? Did he not defeat and humiliate Xanthian, the Breath of the South Wind, in single battle and then eat the elf’s heart in front of his beloved children? Astrophon himself descended into the Underworld and freed thousands before escaping back to the light of the mortal world. He did all these things and more, and the historians of ancient Gog would heap praises on his name, creating from his legend a heroic myth. And yet, people who lived in those times knew better: for all that Astrophon won, all the acclaim he earned, he owed everything to another.
